I get great satisfaction from sharing this journey with my colleagues and osteopathic students in their last years of study, for whom I have been running an annual Osteopathic Summer School since 1999.
I trained at the British School of Osteopathy (BSO) and subsequently joined the BSO’s Board of Governors and the General Council of Registered Osteopaths. In 1983 my family and I moved to Melbourne Australia, another life change that has been a great blessing.
I began teaching undergraduates in the UK in 1979 and in 1985 I joined the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) as a part-time lecturer. RMIT was the first University to run an osteopathic degree course. In 1993, I pioneered the first Osteopathic Paediatrics degree in Australia leading to a Master’s degree at RMIT. The Sutherland Cranial Teaching Foundation of Australia and New Zealand, of which I am a founding member, was established in 1990 as a vehicle for teaching post graduate courses. Since then I have taught on many such courses in Australia, NZ, USA, UK and several European countries.
In 1995 my family moved to Canberra where for one year, we had a child in every level of education from university to pre-school! Over the last twenty two years the clinic has grown and there are now have 8 osteopaths in the clinic supported by a great admin team.
It was through treating my baby son who had projectile vomiting that I became passionate about osteopathic care of babies and children. This has led to further study over the years, in my quest to help babies and children with a variety of difficulties, including birth trauma, colic and reflux, gait problems, poor dental occlusion and learning difficulties. These conditions often require a combination of conventional medical treatment in conjunction with osteopathic care.
Additionally, there may be other modalities that can enhance outcomes for children with learning difficulties, an example of which is sound therapy
In working with children with learning difficulties during the last twenty five years, I developed an interest in the use of sound therapy which is now delivered by Harry Armytage in the World of Wellbeing clinic, also in the Canberra Health Point (on the same floor as the Canberra Osteopathic Centre).

In the last two years I have added low level laser therapy to my work as a way of applying the osteopathic philosophy to encourage and enable the innate healing processes in the body, Find out more here or call to book on 02 62604774.

I have since completed a Graduate Certificate in Neonatal and Infant Paediatric Manual Therapy. I am a member of faculty ( and the Vice-President ) of the SCTF of ANZ, a not for profit, post graduate Osteopathic teaching foundation dedicated to teaching Osteopathy in the cranial field.
My years in practice have exposed me to a wide range of conditions and clientele, during which I had the privilege of being the only Osteopath in an expansive area of northern NSW that treated children. Those years exposed me to a breadth of practice it would have taken me many more years to experience in the City.
I am passionate about Osteopathy. Maxwell has shown much generosity, sharing the wealth of his experience, with me and the other Osteopaths in the practice.
I have two children of my own, they are breathtaking, and they have taught me the practical skills of motherhood, to compliment my studies.
Jared Palpratt
B. APP SC CLINICAL SCIENCE, M.H.SC (OSTEOPATHY)
More
He is a member of the Australian Osteopathic Association and is also Pilates trained.
As the poet Alexander Pope wrote, “The proper study of mankind is man”, this mirrors Jared’s endeavour as he furthers his life long journey in the study of the human body. He was drawn to Osteopathy by the respect that it pays to the body, and the intrinsic healing capabilities that the body possesses. His particular interest in Osteopathy in the Cranial field, is well suited to the Canberra Osteopathic Centre.
Jared is a passionate and enthusiastic Osteopath, who has gained hands on experience treating dancers and performers in Melbourne theatres, marathon and sports runners, cyclists, and other highly trained athletes. He has undertaken assessments of workers in their working environment and was part of a team who suggested improvements aimed at reducing the frequency and impact of work place injuries. Jared also has skill in implementing exercise routines to help reduce work place stresses and strains. Another avenue of experience has been Remedial Massage, which has exposed Jared to many patient cases and patient management strategies.
Jared is a very proud father who enjoys the humbling lessons that children can teach, and is blessed daily with the love and happiness they can provide a family. It has been these experiences that make him want to further his skill with children and be able to treat from the cradle to old age.

More
Prior to becoming an Osteopath, I worked as an anatomical demonstrator, teaching anatomy and preparing anatomical specimens for students.
I have completed a number of post-graduate courses in Cranial Osteopathy. As part of my clinical practice I provide a holistic approach, playing an active role in patient education to assist with managing pain and injuries. I enjoy treating a wide variety of complaints using a combination of cranial and structural techniques, as well as looking into postural and ergonomic factors.
I have developed a special interest in helping children, head trauma, chronic pain, musculoskeletal pain and pregnancy discomfort. My gentle approach is suitable for all ages and injuries with a focus on restoring optimal health and well-being.
I am dedicated to using an integrated approach and I work with your other consultants such as, obstetricians and general practitioners to enable you to have the best all round care. I believe that the human body has a huge natural potential for healing, which can be stimulated by implementing osteopathic treatment.
When I am not treating patients or completing further study in the science of osteopathy, I enjoy a great many things but my favourites are spending time with my husband, horses and beloved dog Stanley. In keeping with my love of all creatures I also have a post graduate degree in Animal Biomechanics and Osteopathy/Chiropractic from RMIT (2009).

Anthony Wrigley
M.OSTEO.MED, BACH.CLIN.SC (OSTEO)
More
He also successfully completed his Masters in Osteopathic Medicine.
Prior to this Anthony lived, worked and travelled throughout Europe for over 13 years. Whilst in the UK he worked extensively as a live-in carer for both Oxford Aunts and Consultus agencies where he cared for elderly people in varying stages of incapacitation, ranging from those who simply struggled to live alone anymore, to those who were suffering advanced forms of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
Anthony left the UK and moved to Zurich, Switzerland where he spent 7 years studying advanced bodywork at The Centre – The European Institute of Esalen Massage under the tutelage of some of the great teachers from the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California such as Currie Prescott and Ray Swartley, who had studied under some of the greats such as Ida Rolf, Milton Trager, Moshe Feldenkrais, Fritz Perls and others. Anthony was fortunate enough during this time in Switzerland to be given the privileged opportunity to be taken under the personal mentorship of the senior, advanced lecturer at The Centre, Meinrad Binder.
During his time in Switzerland he worked as a qualified and registered advanced Esalen practitioner in his own successful clinic in Seefeld, Zurich. Anthony also worked as an assistant teacher at The Centre in various courses ranging from basic training to advanced courses.
Anthony was initially drawn to Osteopathy due to its seemingly natural progression and unison in philosophies to that of Esalen bodywork. Both modalities offer sensitive and responsive approaches to each person in each individual session. Both Osteopathy and Esalen bodywork inextricably interact, integrate and link the body, mind and spirit with its holistic approach to health and wellbeing. Both styles also offer nurturing contact and the integration of technique that helps initiate and augment the healing process with detailed attention to the whole. Anthony is excited to focus on empowering each individual patient to awaken their innate ability for harmony, balance and self-healing through this vocation.
Originally from Western Australia, Anthony developed a deep appreciation of the Northern Rivers community, its people, energy and beauty during his time there studying Osteopathy. Coming to Canberra to join the Canberra Osteopathic Centre is not only a great opportunity to join a dynamic clinic with dedicated colleagues but also brings him closer to family who are now living in Canberra.
He is passionate about the power that bodywork has on the mind, body and Spirit and feels privileged to get the opportunity to work in the Canberra Osteopathic Centre where he will continue to learn from his colleagues and patients, who are indeed the true teachers of any osteopath
